Busy day

Today was quite the day. We went with Jonah's school to the zoo in Tyler. It is a fun little zoo and Jonah was so excited to go. We were supposed to go on Tuesday but it was raining alot so it was postponed. I'm glad we were able to go today. It was a beautiful day, sunny and 70 degrees and the zoo wasn't crowded at all. As usual, Jonah's favorite animal was the penguins. They have a neat little penguin home where you can watch the penguins swim up close. It's always Jonah's favorite when we go there. It was also a good experience to go with some of the other moms. Jonah's school encourages family involvement which is good for me because I have trouble letting Jonah go. I know when he goes to kindergarten next year, I will have a harder time with it than he will. He is growing up so fast as soaking things up like a sponge. Brian has been working on adding and subtracting with him. He is just so proud of himself when he learns new things.

Jonah also lost his first tooth tonight. He woke up Sunday morning and his tooth was wiggling. I started frieking out because he's only four and I thought it would be another year or two before they started falling out. So I called my mom and she told me to find something else to worry about because it wasn't unheard of. So now he looks so cute with a little hole in his smile and he is eagerly waiting for the tooth fairy to come tonight.

Six Flags trip

Last Saturday we went to Six Flags over in Arlington. Brian's company has a Six Flags day as a safety incentive so everyone from the company gets tickets to take their family or friends and they also provide a BBQ dinner. We spent the whole day just going on the kiddie rides. We got Jonah on a few of the small roller coasters but he never acted like it was a lot of fun. His favorite rides were the airplanes and the bumper cars.

I used to love roller coasters but now I look at them and think "no way." Jonah kept asking me if the people fell out of the coasters that go upside down or if the cars fall off. I don't think there was any way he would go on one of the big ones.

Poor Jenna just had to ride in her stroller most of the day. We tried letting her out to walk a little bit but there were just too many people. She was a pretty good sport though and even got a few little naps in. Once while we were waiting for Brian and Jonah she started giving these really cheesy grins to the guy sitting on the bench next to us. She is such a silly girl. She has always preferred men over women. At church she usually has no problem if one of the men or young men pick her up but it's a different story if it's a woman. One night Brian had the young men over to the house for a scouting activity and she was just sitting in the front room with all of them, happy as can be.

Jonah's highlight of the trip was seeing Scooby-Doo and Shaggy. He went crazy when he saw them and nearly ran off without us. Jonah is a big Scooby-Doo fan. One note about the Spider Man shirt he's wearing. His cousin, Joseph sent him this shirt and kids love it. The spider is shiny and kind of 3-D. While we were in line for one of the rides, the little girl in front of us turned around and saw his shirt and had to touch it. He even wore it to soccer practice one night and some of the kids on the team were the same way. It just looks so cool, it's hard not to touch it I guess.

So, I hope Jonah had a great time because he was so excited to go. He said he was going to tell his preschool teacher that he wouldn't be at school because he was going to Six Flags. I hope he didn't. He did miss a soccer game so I think he figured the rest of the world would just have to get by without him for a day because he was going to Six Flags. Such a funny kid.

Happy Halloween

This year Jonah decided that he wanted to be Darth Vader for Halloween. Then he wanted Jenna to be Yoda. We saw the Yoda costume and thought it was so cute. We were just hoping Jenna would be walking by now. I bought their costumes several weeks ago when I found them so I wouldn't be running around trying to find them later. I didn't give Jonah his costume until Monday night though so that it would still be in good condition by Halloween. Jonah was so excited to try it on but was very reluctant to look in the mirror because he knew Darth Vader would be looking back at him. I usually try very hard not to laugh at my children's insecurities but it was just too funny.

Jenna loved her costume and was just so adorable waddling around. We had our church trunk or treat on Wednesday night and everyone loved her costume.

Jonah had his party at school yesterday and they did trick or treating down the hallway. He got almost as much candy at school as he did at the trunk or treat. After so much candy we only went to a few of the neighbors tonight and Jonah still came home with his little bucket nearly full. One of our next door neighbors always has a special treat for our kids and fills a baggie full of candy for them. The first year we lived here she even brought over some of her extra candy and crackers for Jonah the next day. Tonight she called Jonah "Darlin'" and as we were walking away Jonah started ranting about being called Darlin'. He's not Darlin', he's Jonah. He really has this thing about calling him by anything other than his real name. He was pretty loud about it too.

Of course Jonah dug right into his bucket as soon as we got through the door so Jenna thought it was a good idea too. So she got her first M&M's and made a great mess down the front of her shirt. We let Jonah have a couple more pieces of candy and she was looking for hers too so I sastified her with a little bowl of marshmallows. I didn't need anymore chocolate messes for the night.

The Pumpkin Patch

I love fall. It has always been my favorite time of year. I have found that I get more excited for the holidays that are coming now that I have kids. Jonah is really getting into the idea of holidays. His excitement for Halloween started back in September when the stores started putting out their costumes. The great thing about Jonah being in preschool is that he has been able to do lots of crafts and activities which gets him even more excited. Jenna and I went with his class to the pumpkin patch the middle of October. Jonah is a pretty easygoing kid and it is interesting to see how he acts around other kids and in school. Jonah is also a great big brother. He is always worried that I will forget Jenna or just not take her with us. He is quite protective of her but I already see the mentality that it's okay for him to pick on her but nobody else can.

Jenna is my sweet silly girl. She is walking like a pro now. When she wakes up in the morning she is a little wobbily but she gets progressively faster throughout the day so that she is running before bedtime. She also makes the funniest faces. She has a very cheesy grin that cracks me up.

Welcome to the 21st century

With most fads and fashions I tend to reject them at first. The same goes for blogging. But after reading several different blogs from people I have known, I decided it was a good way to share our life with people who care. I don't profess to be a great writer so don't expect perfection or even fluidity. But our kids are growing fast and I thought it would be fun to share their lives with friends and family that live far away and to share some of the thoughts I have throughout the day when I have very little adult stimulation.
